Lazy Lady Baking Company started as a dream in the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. That dream grew into reality when owner and baker Maren Close moved back to her home town of Johnson City in the mountains of East Tennessee.

Lazy Lady is a small scale, scratch made artisan bakeshop specializing in cakes, pies, breads, and sweet and savory pastries.

Maren is inspired by her heritage and long line of great family cooks, and her professional experience on the west coast. She also takes inspiration from her Appalachian surroundings, using local ingredients from independent farmers and producers in surprising ways, pairing sweet with savory and fruits with different herbs, spices, and flours.

Currently, you can find Lazy Lady products at coffee shops, and by special order. Lazy Lady is available for catering orders, parties, and weddings. Get in touch on our Order page to inquire what we can bake for you!

Lazy Lady Baking Company’s very own retail bakery and cafe in downtown Johnson City is currently open on the weekends, at 133 North Commerce Street. With this space Lazy Lady hopes to offer Johnson City a new place to gather as a community over good bread and pastries in a warm and welcoming environment.
